Iraq Starts Bombing ISIL Using Shared Russian, Syrian Intel

The Iraqi military has reportedly launched its first air strikes on Islamic State militant positions using the data of a new information center in Baghdad which was created in cooperation with Russia, Iran and Syria.

Iraq began to bomb Islamic State (ISIL) targets with the help of a new intelligence center that includes staff from Russia, Iran and Syria, Hakim al-Zamili, the head of the Iraqi parliament's defense and security committee, was quoted by Reuters as saying.

He added that the center comprises six staff members from each country and that it has already been operational for about one week.

"We can get a lot of use from Russian intelligence, even if they don't do air strikes," Zamili said.

In late September, it was reported that Russia, Syria, Iran and Iraq had set up an information center in Baghdad to coordinate the fight against ISIL.

Sources said at the time that the center would focus on the collection, processing, summarizing and analysis of current data about the situation in the Middle East in the context of the fight against Islamic State militants.

The sources added that the center will be headed by Russian, Syrian, Iraqi and Iranian officers on a three-month rotational basis, according to the source.

For his part, the Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said back then that reports on the creation of an anti-ISIL coordination center in Baghdad were false.......http://sptnkne.ws/TRA

  1. The U.S. military says conditions are now right for the Iraqi army to make a decisive assault on Ramadi and reclaim the provincial capital from ISIS fighters...

The statement was made Tuesday by Army Col. Steve Warren, a spokesman in Baghdad for the U.S.-led coalition that is fighting ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

Warren said the U.S. has intensified its airstrikes in the Ramadi area over the past 10 days and Iraqi ground forces are beginning to make progress. He said the Iraqis are in the outer Ramadi suburbs, with Iraqi F-16 fighter jets recently joining the operation in support of Iraqi ground troops.

Ramadi fell to ISIS in May when Iraqi troops fled, prompting the U.S. to question their will to fight.

  2. Iraq has started bombing ISIS with help from a new intelligence center that has staff from Russia, Iran and Syria, a senior parliamentary figure said on Tuesday about cooperation seen as a threat to U.S. interests in the region...

The center has been operational for about a week, and it provided intelligence for air strikes on a gathering of middle-level Islamic State figures, Hakim al Zamili, the head of parliament's defense and security committee, told Reuters.

The new security apparatus based in Baghdad suggests the United States is losing clout in a strategic oil-producing region where it has been heavily invested for years.
