Russia FM says US-Japan military technological cooperation takes on nuclear tint

Moscow closely watches Japan and South Korea being dragged into the US missile defense plans, which are destabilizing for international security, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after meeting his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on Monday.

"It is noteworthy that these events are taking place along with the US military buildup in the region, including the creation of a US missile defense system in the Asia-Pacific region and using its potential as part of the US global defense system," Lavrov said adding he had discussed the destabilizing impact of the US missile defense systems on international security.

"We are watching it from the point of view of involvement of Japan and South Korea in the US missile defense plans. At the same time, we can see the underlying principles of military technological cooperation between the United States and Japan are being revised with nuclear component becoming more noticeable," Lavrov stressed.......http://tass.ru/en/politics/822642

  1. S.Korea cautious on US missile defense deployment ...

A top military officer of South Korea's air force on Tuesday showed a cautious stance on the deployment of an advanced U.S. missile defense system dubbed Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) on the Korean Peninsula, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Jeong Kyeong-doo, who was named as the air force chief of staff a week earlier, told a parliamentary audit of the Air Force headquarters that the THAAD deployment has merits and demerits from the military perspective, saying the defense ministry would decide on it after considering various security situations, including national interest.

His comments were in line with the position of the defense ministry, which has maintained the so-called "strategic ambiguity" on the issue, which is billed as "three Nos"-- No request, No consultation and No decision.

It means that there has been no request from the U.S. for the THAAD deployment and no consultations between Seoul and Washington over the issue, and so no decision has been made yet...............http://www.china.org.cn/world/2015-09/22/content_36651823.htm
