The buses will be sent to pick up the thousands of migrants at Budapest's main railway terminus and 1,200 who are walking along the main westward motorway towards Austria, he told a news conference.
"This does not automatically mean that they can leave thecountry," he added. "We are waiting for the Austriangovernment's response."
Earlier, a group of around 500 refugees and migrants, marching on a Hungarian motorway towards the Austrian border, broke through a police barricade and continued on the main highway connecting Budapest and Vienna.
The group, mostly from Syria and Afghanistan, left Budapest's Keleti railway station this morning after authorities refused to let them travel to Austria on trains....

ReplyDeleteBICSKE, Hungary -- Hundreds of migrants, exhausted after breaking away from police and marching for hours toward Western Europe, boarded buses provided by Hungary's government as Austria in the early-morning hours said it and Germany would let them in.
Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann announced the decision early Saturday after speaking with Angela Merkel, his German counterpart -- not long after Hungary's surprise nighttime move to provide buses for the weary travellers from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
With people streaming in long lines along highways from a Budapest train station and near a migrant reception centre in this northern town, the buses would be used because "transportation safety can't be put at risk," said Janos Lazar, chief of staff to the prime minister.

ReplyDelete(Belga) Le premier d'une centaine de bus affrétés par le gouvernement hongrois pour conduire des milliers de migrants à la frontière autrichienne est arrivé samedi matin au poste-frontière de Hegyeshalom-Nickelsdorf, ont indiqué la police autrichienne et l'agence officielle hongroise MTI.
Le bus transporte une cinquantaine de migrants qui avaient été pris en charge sur l'autoroute où ils avaient entrepris de gagner la frontière à pied. Plusieurs dizaines de bus étaient également en route depuis la gare de Budapest-Keleti.
