Croatia prepares emergency plan for possible refugee wave. Serbian media said buses were now being redirected to Croatia

Croatia has prepared an emergency plan for potential influx of refugees who might go through the country to Germany after Hungary closed its borders, Croatian Interior Minister Ranko Ostojic said on Tuesday.

Ostojic did not release details but said the plan defined the actions of all sectors of the state administration and coordination with all who could help.

The plan would be activated soon if refugees massively flooded Croatia, he said, adding if there was a wave of thousands of refugees, it was the time the regular measures on the border could no longer be applied.

There were reports in local media that Croatia has not been a destination for refugees so far, but it was possible they would arrive after Hungary put up fences on its borders.

  • Migrants face hunt for new routes as Hungary border sealed...

Hundreds of migrants have spent the night at the closed Hungary-Serbia border, with many facing the choice of finding a new route to northern Europe.

Serbian media said buses were now being redirected to Croatia, with migrants then planning to move on to Slovenia, Austria - and finally Germany.

There have also been suggestions that Romania may become a new route.

New border restrictions and a row over allocating migrants have shown bitter divisions in Europe over the crisis.

  1. Migrant crisis: Dozens reach Croatia as Hungary border sealed...

The first group of migrants has reached Croatia - a new route to northern European Union countries, a day after Hungary sealed its border with Serbia.

About 150 migrants crossed into the EU country from neighbouring Serbia.

Croatia says it is ready to receive them "or direct" them to where they want to go. Many migrants - mainly Syrian - are hoping to reach Germany.

  2. Europe is responsible for the ongoing refugee crisis, as it has supported terrorism in the Middle East, Syrian President Bashar Assad said....

"So Europe is responsible because it supported terrorism, as I said a short while ago, and is still supporting terrorism and providing cover for them," Assad said in an interview with Russian media, referring to the Western support of the so-called moderate opposition in Syria.

Assad blamed Europe for leading the policy of double standards.

"Can you feel sad for a child’s death in the sea and not for thousands of children who have been killed by the terrorists in Syria? And also for men, women, and the elderly? These European double standards are no longer acceptable," Assad asked.

The ongoing violence in Syria has forced some 11 million people out of their homes with hundreds of thousands of them trying to make their way to Europe to find safety.

  4. Migrants break through Croatian police lines at Tovarnik...

Crowds of migrants crossing from Serbia have broken through riot police lines on the Croatian border at Tovarnik.

Croatia is struggling to deal with at least 6,000 arrivals since Wednesday morning after Hungary closed its border with Serbia, blocking the previous route into the European Union.

Croatian officials say migrants must apply for asylum there or be treated as illegal immigrants.

EU leaders will hold an emergency summit next week to discuss the crisis.

There were chaotic scenes at Tovarnik as riot police tried to hold back hundreds of migrants, angry at waiting for hours in intense heat for transport on from the border.

Groups of people broke through police lines, with women and children knocked over in the melee.

In the baking heat, crowds of migrants chanted "we want to go".

Correspondents say police are helping children and other vulnerable people to get through.

Many of the people are exhausted with supplies of food and water running low.........BBC
