China rejects Japan's comments over Ban's China visit

China on Tuesday rejected Japan's comments expressing displeasure about UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's plans to attend China's V-Day celebrations.

At a regular press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said the purpose of China's V-Day celebrations is to "remember history, cherish the memory of China's revolutionary martyrs, uphold peace and create the future."

Ban Ki-moon said last Friday that the international community recognizes China's contributions and sacrifices in World War II, and it is important for the world to learn from the past and look toward the future in order to build a better world.

Hua said that as the international community commemorates the 70th anniversary of the end of the World Anti-Fascist War, Japan's remarks are making trouble out of nothing.

"We urge Japan to take an honest and modest attitude to truly face up to and deeply reflect on its history of militarism," Hua said.
