Spain, Morocco arrest 14 suspected of recruiting for Islamic State group

Spain and Morocco arrested 14 people on Tuesday suspected of recruiting fighters for the Islamic State (IS) group in Syria and Iraq, Spain's Interior Ministry said.

The arrests, part of a joint operation between Morocco and Spain, were made in the outskirts of Madrid and in various places in Morocco, including Casablanca and Fez.

No more details were immediately available.

The two countries have worked closely together to crack down on Islamist militant networks, making dozens of arrests this year alone.

Earlier this month, police in Spain’s north-western Galicia detained a man accused of selling IS-themed clothing, including T-shirts and babygros.

It followed a string of arrests of Islamist suspects across the country, including in Catalonia, the North African enclave of Melilla, and the Canary Islands.
