Israeli security forces demolish illegal buildings in West Bank

Israeli security services demolished four buildings built illegally in two Jewish outposts in the West Bank, an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson confirmed to Xinhua on Thursday.

The military demolished two buildings in a Jewish outpost called Maoz Esther and another two in the adjacent Geulat Zion outpost, both located near the settlement of Shiloh, north of Ramallah, in the West Bank.

Settlers threw stones at Israeli soldiers who demolished the buildings, and burnt tires in protest. Three youths were arrested, the Walla! news website reported.

The outposts are also close to the Palestinian village of Duma, where, on July 31, Jewish extremists set fire to the Dawabshe family house, killing an 18 month-old baby and his father, injuring the mother and a 4 year-old boy. Israeli security services have yet to comprehend the suspects in the Duma attack.

In July, Israeli security services completed the demolition of two buildings in the Beit El settlement, known as the Dreinoff buildings, following a Supreme Court ruling that the buildings were built on private Palestinian land.

The evacuation, which was hampered by hundreds of settlers barricading themselves in the building and clashing with security forces, was completed only after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that 300 new housing units would be built on the site.

Israel occupied the West Bank territories in the 1967 Mideast War, and Jewish settlements are built on lands slated to be part of a future Palestinian state, according to the two-state solution. The international community considers the settlements to be illegal, criticizing Israel's ongoing expansion.
