ISIS militant 'surrenders' to Turkey (Army)

A jihadist from the Islamic State (IS) militant group surrendered to the Turkish army on the border between Turkey and Syria, the armed forces said on Saturday.

The IS jihadist "surrendered together with his Kalashnikov (AK-47), seven magazines and 180 cartridges," the army said in a statement...

It said that the surrender took place on Friday in the Suruc district on the border, close to the Syrian town of Kobane which Kurdish fighters recaptured from jihadists last month.

There were no further details and it was not immediately clear if this was the first such incident.

Turkey has been under fire from its Western partners for not doing enough to halt the advance of IS, which has taken swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria.
