FYROM News: Ahmeti demands a more active role by the Greek government for the solution of the name dispute

By Naser Pajaziti
The leader of the Democratic Union for Integration (BDI), Ali Ahmeti demanded today  from the chief of the Greek office , Theocharis Lalakos for a more active engagement in order to reach a compromise for the solution of the name dispute. Ahmeti stressed this after a meeting that he held with the Greek diplomat.

“As far as the name issue is concerned, we’re waiting a more active and direct engagement of the new Greek government in order to overcome the name dispute with Skopje, an issue which is keeping us outside the European Union and NATO”, declared Ahmeti.

According to him, BDI backs direct negotiations between the two countries in order to come up with a solution of the name dispute and which will enable accession in the NATO and start of negotiations for EU accession”, underlined the leader of BDI.

“This is the only alternative for our country, which would provide peace, security and stability and it would enable economic development in the country and also good relations between ethnic groups and neighboring countries”, said Ahmeti.

Meanwhile, ambassador Lalakos has not commented today’s meeting. /ibna/
