Liberman allegedly refuses to meet Swedish Foreign Minster due to October recognition of Palestine

Sweden's Foreign Minister has indefinitely postponed an official state visit to Israel in light of claims that the Jewish State's own Foreign Minister, Avigdor Liberman refused to meet her, AFP reported Thursday.

In an interview with Swedish radio, the spokesman for Israel's Foreign Ministry, Emmanuel Nahson, explained that the Scandinavian country's Foreign Minister, Margot Wallstroem,"would not have been given any official meetings in Israel if she had traveled here." "What Sweden did was an utterly unfriendly action," Nahshon added, referring to Stockholm's recognition of Palestine.

Sweden was the first major EU nation to recognize a Palestinian state. The October decision prompted Israel to recall it's Sweden based ambassador, Isaac Bachman.

Despite the controversy Sweden said Wallstroem would visit Israel after it's upcoming elections which will take place on March 17.

"It's in everybody's interest to have good diplomatic ties and we respect that there is an election campaign in Israel now and that there is a heightened debate," a Swedish foreign ministry spokeswoman told Swedish Radio.

  1. Israel extremely aggressive towards Palestinians: Sweden’s FM ...

Israel’s policies against Palestinians are ''extremely aggressive", Sweden’s Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom has declared a day after being told she was not welcome in Israel.

Wallstrom’s comments came on Friday in an interview with local media as she discussed her country's recognition of Palestine statehood.

She told Swedish daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter: ''We knew that the Israelis would react, and they do have a rhetoric that has gone beyond all limits."

"The way they have been talking about us [the Swedish government] and others is not acceptable.''

Wallstrom underlined that a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict should be implemented "while it is still possible", adding: ''I am for Israel, I am for Palestine''.

But she added: ''Israel has been extremely aggressive."................http://www.aa.com.tr/en/headline/451453--israel-extremely-aggressive-towards-palestinians-wallstrom
