A squadron of ships from the Russian Navy’s Northern Fleet is holding drills in the English Channel, the Fleet’s Western Military Region’s press service said Friday.
“Today, a squadron of ships and support vessels from the Northern Fleet…have passed the narrowest part of the English Channel in the Strait of Dover and have entered a bay near the mouth of the Seine River,” the Navy’s press service said.
Because of poor weather conditions, the ships decided to wait out a storm in the neutral waters of the bay.

Manöver in Ärmelkanal: Russische Kriegsschiffe auf Abwegen
ReplyDeleteRussische Kriegsschiffe sind einem Agenturbericht zufolge für ein Manöver in den Ärmelkanal eingefahren. Das Geschwader unter Führung des U-Bootjägers Seweromorsk habe die Straße von Calais passiert und befinde sich nun in neutralem Gewässer, berichtete die Nachrichtenagentur Ria Nowosti am Freitag unter Berufung auf die russische Marine.
Das Geschwader warte in einer Bucht vor der Küste der Normandie ab, bis ein Sturm vorüberziehe. Die Nato konnte die Angaben zunächst nicht bestätigen.
Im Zuge der Ukraine-Krise hatten sowohl die Nato als auch Russland die Anzahl ihrer Manöver in Europa deutlich erhöht. Ende Oktober hatte die Nato ungewöhnlich viele Übungsflüge russischer Kampfjets im internationalen Luftraum, unter anderem über Nord- und Ostsee gemeldet.

NATO unconcerned by Russian warships in English Channel ...
ReplyDelete.....Lt. Col. Jay Janzen, NATO’s military spokesman, also said the alliance was aware of the Russian ships’ location.
“Our information indicates that the ships are transiting and have been delayed by weather conditions. They are not exercising in the Channel, as some Russian headlines would have us believe,” he said.

Des navires de guerre russes sont en manoeuvres dans la Manche ...
ReplyDeleteUn détachement de navires de guerre russes est arrivé vendredi dans la Manche où il effectue des exercices militaires, a indiqué la Flotte du Nord de la Marine russe cité par l'agence Ria Novosti.
"Un détachement de navires et de bateaux de la Flotte du Nord mené par le navire spécialisé dans la lutte anti-sous-marine Severomorsk est passé par la partie la moins large de la Manche, dans le Pas de Calais et est entré dans la baie de Seine", a indiqué le service de presse de la Flotte du Nord citée par Ria Novosti.
Selon le ministère russe de la Défense, le détachement, mené par le destroyer Severomorsk, a quitté le 20 novembre son port d'attache près de Mourmansk, dans la mer de Barents.
