MOSCOW, November 18 (Sputnik) — FYROM has introduced a temporary ban on poultry imports from UK, Germany and the Netherlands over the spread of the avian influenza in those countries, FYROM International News Agency reported, citing the Food and Veterinary Agency.
"In our oversight, considering all analyzed samples of caught or dead wild fowl, or poultry kept in different conditions in FYROM, in the past years, we have not detected the presence of this disease. It also hasn't been detected in the region either," the Food and Veterinary Agency informed Monday.
The move comes even though the virus has not been detected in FYROM yet.
The avian influenza was detected at a poultry farm in the central part of the Netherlands last week, with one case being recorded at a duck farm in Yorkshire, UK, on Monday..................http://sputniknews.com/europe/20141118/1014861739.html

ReplyDeleteThe World Health Organization cautioned Nov. 18 that a new kind of bird flu hitting European poultry farms would spread among birds, after Britain confirmed its outbreak was of the same strain as in the Netherlands and Germany.
Sweden meanwhile ordered farmers to keep hens and other poultry indoors "as a precaution", amid concerns that the highly infectious H5N8 strain is being spread by wild birds.
"We should all be quite vigilant," Elizabeth Mumford, a scientist with the WHO's Global Influenza Programme, told reporters in Geneva.
She said she "absolutely" expected more bird flocks to fall sick, but said it remained unclear whether the virus will spread to humans.
