Russia to press for probe into fact of burials near Donetsk at the PACE and OSCE

Russia will press for a probe into the fact of discovery of mass graves near Donetsk at international platforms such as the Council of Europe, PACE and OSCE, Aleksey Pushkov, head of the State Duma committee on international affairs, told ITAR-TASS.

"Russia must and will raise the matter in international organizations the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, pointing out that people who are directly responsible for these war crimes and crimes against humanity are now in power in Kiev," the parliamentarian said. Since Kiev, he said, "is incapable of carrying out any investigation whatsoever, this must be the subject of a very serious examination within the framework of those organizations".

Pushkov also said that he intends to contact Thorbjoern Jagland, Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, and "take up the matter with him to the effect that the Council must act more energetically in this respect and, possibly, head such a commission (for investigation)". "At all events, I intend to put forward such a proposal," he said.

On Tuesday, militia members of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic came across the burials of bodies in the grounds of a timber depot of Mine 22 "Kommunar" (Nizhnyaya Krynka, 60 km from Donetsk).

A spokesman for militia told ITAR-TASS, "Possibly, this is a mass grave. Disinterment is to be carried out and the entire territory will be explored. Other burial sites have been also found and will be cut open". Discovered so far are four bodies, including beheaded ones. Only two days ago National Guard units stayed in the area of the discovered burials.

    1. The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission investigating the site of mass graves 35 kilometers away from the city of Donetsk in Ukraine found signs indicating that at least several civilians were butchered in late August, according to a SMM report published Wednesday....

"The SMM… saw in the coal mine two areas located fifty meters apart, each containing two human bodies. All four corpses were in the process of decomposition... Near the road on the edge of the village, the SMM observed a pile of earth resembling a grave which had a stick with a plaque," the report said.

The OSCE monitoring mission said the plaque bore names or initials of five people and indicated that the individuals died on 27.08.2014. Monitors said they also found "eight 9mm Makarov pistol cartridges" some five meters away from the bodies.

Donetsk militia earlier alerted the OSCE to the presence of three mass graves containing multiple bodies of massacred civilians, killed execution style. The graves were found on the territory of a coal mine Komunar near the village Nyzhnia Krynka north-east of Donetsk, with another one inside the village.

Reports say four bodies have been recovered so far, including three identified as women. The SMM said in its report it "cannot provide a forensic assessment of the sites."

The Russian Foreign Ministry has suggested that pro-Kiev National Guard volunteers might have been involved in the massacre, and said it hoped the UN, the OSCE and the European Council would provide a just and unbiased assessment of the mass killings of civilians in eastern Ukraine.
