This is what head of Serbia's EU accession negotiating team Tanja Miščević wrote in an op-ed published in the Belgrade-based daily Danas.
“The Union is a moving target that we must follow as we need to be aware that we will become its member in the circumstances that the Union itself will be in at that moment,” Miščević said.
“We surely need to check if the objectives of the EU and our own goals converge at some point, as we live in the same crisis-laden circumstances and we can get out of them by cooperating with strong European economies and joint markets,” she said.
- Miščević pointed out that the EU itself had observed slow growth, high unemployment rate, lack of public and private investment, macroeconomic imbalances, public debt, lack of competitiveness and the need for structural reforms.
“The Union (and Serbia) should improve the entrepreneurship climate and enable the creation of jobs through better access to finance, and also increase investment, improve labor market, and free the economy from the grip of taxes and unnecessary administrative burden,” said Miščević.
