On Monday, 22 September, Deputy Foreign
Minister Kyriakos Gerontopoulos attended an event hosted by the Armenian
Embassy in Athens, marking the 23rd anniversary of Armenian
independence.
Mr. Gerontopoulos was received by the Armenian Ambassador to Athens, Gagik Ghalatchian, with whom he had a warm discussion, during which they reaffirmed the excellent relations between the two countries and talked about the prospects for the deepening of bilateral political and economic relations.

Mr. Ghalatchian thanked Mr. Gerontopoulos for his contribution, as an MEP, to the European Parliament’s recognition, in 1988, of the Armenian Genocide. Messrs. Gerontopoulos and Ghalatchian also discussed the visit to Armenia this coming Monday of the President of the Republic, Karolos Papoulias, whom Mr. Gerontopoulos will be accompanying.
