Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Federica Mogherini holds an official visit to Albania on Friday in the framework of a tour in the capitals of Western Balkan countries (Sarajevo, Pristina, Skopje, Tirana, Belgrade and Podgorica).
This is one of her first visits since Italy took over the European Union Council chairmanship.
Through this visit, the Italian minister says that she wants to send a clear message on the importance that will be given to the European perspective of the entire region. The enlargement of the European Union with the Balkan consists on a priority of the Italian chairmanship program.
The visit in Albania is of a special importance, a month after Albania was granted the EU membership candidate status, a step that Italy has always supported thanks to the strong links between the two countries.
During its chairmanship, Italy has said that it will continue to back the process of European reforms undertaken by Albania.
The head of the Italian diplomacy will have bilateral meetings in Tirana with the Albanian counterpart, Ditmir Bushati, to then continue her meetings with prime minister Edi Rama, speaker of parliament, Ilir Meta, president of Republic, Bujar Nishani and leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha. /ibna/
