“Greece fully respects the International Law of the Sea. It has taken care that the areas to be offered for bidding should not create any problem whatsoever with any neighbouring country, including, in this case, with Albania. Of course, our frame of reference is always joint acceptance of and respect for the International Law of the Sea.”

Konstantinos Koutras stated the following in response to a journalist’s
question on articles in the Albanian press, according to which the Greek
government intends to issue a call for tenders for exploration for and
exploitation of hydrocarbons in areas within Albanian territorial
waters:
“Greece fully respects the International Law of the Sea. It has taken care that the areas to be offered for bidding should not create any problem whatsoever with any neighbouring country, including, in this case, with Albania. Of course, our frame of reference is always joint acceptance of and respect for the International Law of the Sea.”
