The Greek Presidency of the European Union (EU) on Friday welcomes the Geneva agreement on Ukraine reached by key parties in the four-way talks and urged implementation.
"The points agreed on in Geneva are an important first step toward de-escalating the situation and shaping the conditions for overcoming the crisis in Ukraine," said Greek Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos in a statement:
Under the agreement reached in the four-way talks in Geneva, involving Kiev and Moscow, alongside the United States and European Union, all parties must refrain from violence and provocative acts and all illegal groups will be disarmed.
It was also agreed an amnesty will be granted to protestors not facing capital crimes, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe should play a leading role in assisting Ukrainian authorities and local communities in immediate implementation of the de-escalation measures.
"What is important now is the conscientious implementation of everything agreed upon, so that a climate of trust and a sense of security can be restored on all levels," Venizelos stressed.
