Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Venizelos’ statement regarding the situation in Ukraine. -Hellenic MoFA

MFA, Wednesday, 19 February 2014
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos made the following statement regarding the situation in Ukraine:

“The international community is shocked at the uncontrolled escalation of violence in the center of Kiev in recent hours. We express our strong concern and state in the most categorical manner that violence is not a solution, but merely perpetuates the impasse.

We call on all those involved to show restraint, to desist from the use of violence, and to return to the table of dialogue. In these critical hours, the Ukrainian people need to bear in mind that the achievement of a compromise solution is the only way ahead, and that what unites them is much greater than what divides them.”

  2. Hollande, Merkel Speak Out Against Ukraine Violence ...

France and Germany are taking a united stance against the latest deadly violence in Ukraine.

During a joint news conference Wednesday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Paris, French President Francois Hollande called for "quick and targeted sanctions against those responsible for oppression" in Ukraine. He called the violence "unspeakable" and unacceptable."

Ms. Merkel said European Union foreign ministers will discuss what sanctions could be implemented against Kyiv during a meeting Thursday in Brussels. She sympathized with the victims in Ukraine, saying the European Union cannot just accept the violence that is being "dished out."

Meanwhile in Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov condemned the deadly Ukraine protests as a "coup attempt." He denied claims President Vladimir Putin was giving advice to Ukraine's president on how to handle the crisis and reiterated that Moscow would not interfere with the Ukraine's internal affairs...........http://www.voanews.com/content/hollande-merkel-speak-out-against-ukraine-violence/1854614.html
