Netanyahu hints he's willing to give up empty West Bank land

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has hinted on Monday that he is fine with giving up empty West Bank land as a part of a peace agreement with the Palestinians, but stressed that he has a problem with evacuating settlements.

Speaking at the Likud faction meeting, Netanyahu told party MKs that he is persuading Kerry of many of Israel's positions.

But stressed that Israel doesn't want to control the Palestinians.

  1. Israel finance minister suspends settlement funds...

Israeli Finance Minister Yair Lapid has decided to suspend the transfer of public funds to West Bank settlements pending a probe into their alleged misuse, his office said.

The move announced late Saturday was not expected to affect controversial plans for settlement expansion, which the Palestinians view as a major obstacle to US-backed peace talks relaunched last year.

Lapid's move came after he was informed that "funds were allegedly transferred from settlements to the Yesha Council," which represents Israelis living in the West Bank, a statement late Saturday read.

West Bank settlements receive compensation following the 10-month construction freeze of 2009-2010, which came as part of US-led peace efforts.

The funds were intended for security and the maintainance of schools and kindergartens.

But after it emerged the funds were "allegedly being illegally channelled to the Yesha Council, which was using the money for political activities -- including against the government -- the minister ordered to immediately cut the future fundings under this clause," the statement read.

The minister has ordered an investigation into the matter, it added............................http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/israel-finance-minister-suspends-settlement-funds.aspx?pageID=238&nID=61867&NewsCatID=352

  2. Israel clears protests from key West Bank site...

The Israeli military removed Palestinian activists protesting in a West Bank village, the status of which is a central issue in the U.S.-brokered peace discussions with the Jewish state, the Associated Press reported Friday.

Hundreds of activists had been protesting for a week at Ein Hijleh, a Palestinian village in the Jordan Valley abandoned after Israel captured the land from Jordan in the 1967 war.

The army said troops evacuated the activists after they ignored calls to leave the area.

Abdallah Abu Rahmeh, a protest organizer, said soldiers raided the site early Friday.

The fate of the valley is a sticking point in U.S.-led negotiations that seek to produce a deal on setting up a Palestinian state alongside Israel. The Palestinians want that state to include the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem, territories Israel captured in 1967.

The Jordan Valley would form the eastern border of a Palestinian state with Jordan..............http://english.alarabiya.net/en/News/middle-east/2014/02/07/Israel-says-three-rockets-fired-from-Gaza.html
