  1. Turkey's AKP angered over ‘breach of authority’ in search of intel trucks near Syria...

Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has voiced ire over the search of seven National Intelligence Organization (MİT) trucks containing weapons in the province of Adana near Syria, slamming security forces for “exceeding their authority.”

“Presumably the intention of those prosecutors goes far beyond just prosecuting. MİT is the intelligence institution of the state and its laws are clear: According to Article 26 of the law on MİT, any procedure regarding MİT should be authorized by the prime minister,” AKP deputy head and spokesperson Hüseyin Çelik said during a live broadcast on CNNTürk late Jan. 19.

“There are some balances in international politics, the state has its secrets as well,” Çelik said.

Gendarmerie teams stopped the seven trucks following a tip-off that they were carrying weapons and ammunition. Security forces reportedly seized some weapons after the search was carried out, but reporters who took photographs of the trucks were detained.

In a later statement, the Adana Governor’s Office said the personnel in the trucks were MİT officials conducting “a regular duty.”

“Do you see yourself as another state within the state or something? In my opinion, this is exceeding one’s authority. It is not possible to explain with words what has been done there,” Çelik said.

Çelik confirmed that the trucks belonged to MİT, but downplayed reports claiming that weapons had been found. “What’s there inside is not your business. The duties of MİT have been established in the Constitution and by the law. The limits within which it can be prosecuted are determined. Nobody can do as he wishes,” Çelik said.

Earlier this month, Hatay Gov. Celalettin Lekesiz blocked the official search of a truck, arguing that the cargo was a state secret. The truck continued on its route after the prosecutor noted the development.

The government later announced that the truck was carrying aid to Turkmens in Syria.

“There are Turkmens [in Syria]. The aid is for them. Everybody has to know one’s own job,” Interior Minister Efkan Ala said, without giving any detail on the content of the aid.

Security officers who stopped the truck were later removed from their positions....................http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkeys-akp-angered-over-breach-of-authority-in-search-of-intel-trucks-near-syria.aspx?pageID=238&nID=61279&NewsCatID=338
