FYROM NEWS/Srgjan Kerim is a potential presidential candidate: Pressure against Greeks is counter productive.

FYROM, Skopje, November 18, 2013

The renowned diplomat, Srgjan Kerim has been imposing himself as a potential consensual candidate for next year’s presidential elections.

Kerim is a diplomat of career of Turkish origins, who has held important diplomatic posts during former Yugoslavia and after the independence of FYROM, has declared that he may run for president, but only if he obtains the support of a political party or a wider consensus.

“The practice seen so far in the country shows that without the support of a political party, it’s not realistic to believe on a candidacy. This is the reason why I believe that talks should take place about my nomination in order to have such support”, declared Kerim, who has also served as foreign minister of the country.

Kerim has also commented the deadlock in the European integration process caused by Greece as a result of the name dispute. “Pressure of any kind against Greece, including Berlin, will only be counter productive. Instead of this, Berlin and Paris, but also other EU countries must call on Greece to show general European solidarity by supporting the European integration of our country”, said the former diplomat, Kerim. /ibna/
