Serbia condemns Turkish PM for saying that Turkey and Kosovo were part of a common civilization.

BELGRADE, October 24 (Itar-Tass) - Serbia has resolutely condemned Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his remarks that “Kosovo is Turkey and Turkey is Kosovo” made during a visit to the self-proclaimed republic on October 23.

“Serbia cannot consider such remarks to be friendly. They are contradicting all the statements made by the Turkish leadership before,” the Serbian Foreign Ministry said in its statement on Thursday.

“The whole world knows that Kosovo is a Serbian name and that Kosovo is a Serbian territory despite the fact that Turkey has recognized its ‘sovereignty’,” the Serbian Foreign Ministry went on to say.

Last Wednesday, Prime Minister Erdogan and his Albanian counterpart Edi Rama attended the opening of a new airport terminal in the city of Prizren in southern Kosovo. In his speech, the Turkish prime minister said that the peoples of Kosovo and Turkey were “part of a common civilization and the children of one land.” Erdogan said that he felt at home in Kosovo. “Turkey, which was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of the Republic of Kosovo, continues rendering all-round support to it,” the Turkish prime minister emphasized.
