Αμερικανικά τηλεοπτικά δίκτυα ανέφεραν, επικαλούμενα πηγές στο Στέιτ Ντιπάρτμεντ, πως η απόφαση ελήφθη μετά από πληροφορίες για πιθανή επίθεση, χωρίς να είναι ξεκάθαρο για ποια χώρα επρόκειτο.
Η εκρπόσωπος του αμερικανικού υπουργείο Εξωτερικών περιορίστηκε να ανακοινώσει πως «δόθηκε οδηγία σε ορισμένες πρεσβείες και προξενεία να μείνουν κλειστές ή να αναστείλουν τη λειτουργία τους την Κυριακή, 4η Αυγούστου».
Αυτό το «προληπτικό μέτρο ελήφθη μετά από ανησυχίες για ζητήματα ασφαλείας» είπε.
Οι πρεσβείες που μένουν ανοικτές την Κυριακή είναι σε μουσουλμανικές χώρες (όπου η Κυριακή δεν είναι αργία) και το μέτρο φαίνεται ότι αφορά την Αίγυπτο, το Ιράκ, τη Λιβύη (όπου και είχε γίνει επίθεση το 2012), τα Ηνωμένα Αραβικά Εμιράτα, το Μπαχρέιν, το Ισραήλ, την Ιορδανία, το Κουβέιτ, το Ομάν, το Κατάρ, τη Σαουδική Αραβία, την Υεμένη, το Αφγανιστάν και το Μπαγκλαντές.

US in worldwide travel alert on al-Qaeda threat...
ReplyDeleteThe US state department has said it is issuing a global travel alert because of an unspecified al-Qaeda threat.
In a statement, the department said the potential for an attack is particularly strong in the Middle East and North Africa.
The move comes shortly after the US announced the closure of embassies in the region on Sunday.
The alert expires on 31 August 2013, the department said. It recommended US citizens travelling abroad be vigilant.
"Current information suggests that al-Qa'ida and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks both in the region and beyond, and that they may focus efforts to conduct attacks in the period between now and the end of August," the statement said.
An unnamed senior US official told NBC the threat may be related to the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which ends next week.
Among the US embassies affected by the closures on Sunday are Israel, Egypt, Turkey, Algeria, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh.
In the Muslim world, Sunday is a work day. In other parts of the world US diplomatic offices are shut on Sunday.
"It is possible we may have additional days of closing as well," a senior state department official told the BBC earlier.
The official said the state department had "been apprised of information" leading it to take these "precautionary steps... out of an abundance of caution".
Last year on 11 September, the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was attacked, leaving four Americans dead.
Other embassies are routinely targets of protesters.

ReplyDeleteWegen einer Drohung des Terrornetzwerks al-Qaida haben die USA eine weltweite Reisewarnung herausgegeben. Auch sollen Botschaften am Sonntag geschlossen bleiben.
Die USA haben mit Hinweis auf eine Gefährdungslage durch das Terrornetzwerk al-Qaida eine globale Reisewarnung für alle Bürger veröffentlicht. Sie gilt vorerst bis zum 31. August und fällt zeitlich zusammen mit einer Schließung von US-Vertretungen in der muslimischen Welt an diesem Sonntag.
Das State Department in Washington begründete am Freitag den ungewöhnlichen Schritt einer weltweiten Reisewarnung mit Informationen über geplante Anschläge des Terrornetzwerks al-Qaida und verbündeter Organisationen. Das terroristische Potenzial sei besonders stark im Nahen Osten und im nördlichen Afrika. Eine Attacke könnte sich "in dieser Region und darüber hinaus" ereignen.
Die Reisewarnung kommt nur einen Tag nach der Ankündigung, dass am Sonntag alle US-Botschaften und Konsulate in der arabischen Welt geschlossen werden. Die Schließung der mindestens 18 diplomatischen Vertretung könne in einigen Fällen auch länger anhalten, sagte Marie Harf, Sprecherin des State Department.
In der Reisewarnung des Außenministeriums heißt es: "Aktuelle Informationen weisen darauf hin, dass al-Qaida und verbündete Organisationen weiterhin terroristische Aktionen sowohl in der Region als auch darüber hinaus planen, und dass sie offenkundig ihre Anstrengungen darauf konzentrieren, einen Anschlag zwischen heute und Ende August auszuführen".
Im September 2012 waren ebenfalls etliche US-Botschaften im arabischen Staatenraum geschlossen worden. Seinerzeit ging es sowohl um den Jahrestag des 11. September 2001, an dem al-Qaida das World Trade Center in New York und das Pentagon in Washington angriff, sowie um die Wut über einen antiislamischen Film, der in den USA produziert worden war.
In mehreren Städten, darunter Kairo, kam es zu gewalttätigen Protesten; im libyschen Bengasi kam es sogar zu einer exakt geplanten Attacke von al-Qaida-nahen Terroristen auf eine Vertretung der US-Botschaft. Dabei wurden vier US-Amerikaner getötet, unter ihnen Botschafter Chris Stevens.

Britain to close embassy in Yemen on Sunday, Monday: media...

-- Britain will close its embassy in Yemen on Sunday and Monday driven by "increased security concerns" as a precautionary measure, media reports quoted foreign officials as saying on Friday.
The Foreign Office said it has withdrawed a number of staff from Yemen and advised British natinals against all travel there as security situation was particularly concerned in the final days of Ramadan.

Washington a annoncé dimanche la prolongation jusqu’au 10 août de la fermeture de 19 de ses ambassades et consulats au Moyen Orient et en Afrique par mesure de sécurité après des menaces d’attentats crédibles de la part d’Al-Qaeda.
La liste comprend quinze représentations diplomatiques déjà fermées dimanche, ainsi que quatre nouveaux postes, a précisé le Département d’Etat dans un communiqué. US tells its citizens in Yemen to leave immediately ...
ReplyDeleteDUBAI - The United States told its citizens in Yemen on Tuesday to leave the country immediately because of what is said was the continued potential for terrorist attacks.
It also ordered non-emergency US government staff to leave the Arab state, according to a statement posted on the US State Department's website.

Ambassades fermées: Washington a intercepté des menaces d’Al-Qaïda...
ReplyDeleteBarack Obama a pris la décision de fermer les représentations diplomatiques à la suite de l’interception la semaine dernière de communications électroniques entre Ayman al-Zawahiri, le chef d’Al-Qaïda et son numéro 2, basé au Yemen. Dans ce pays, quatre terroristes présumés ont été tués par un drone, probablement américain.
L’interception de messages contenant des menaces d’attentats entre le numéro 1 d’Al-Qaïda, Ayman al-Zawahiri, et le chef de la filiale Al-Qaïda dans la Péninsule arabique (AQPA) a été le déclencheur de la décision de Washington de fermer une vingtaine d’ambassades et de consulats américains, ont rapporté plusieurs médias américains.

CNN rapporte que al-Zawahiri (qui serait en ce moment au Pakistan) a demandé à al-Wuhayshi de « faire quelque chose », ce qui a poussé les responsables de Washington et du Yemen à redouter une attaque imminente. Lors d’une conférence de presse lundi à Washington, la porte-parole adjointe du département d’État, Marie Harf, a refusé d’expliquer quel était l’état précis de la menace. « Nous continuons d’évaluer les renseignements, de les analyser et (…) nous prenons des mesures de précaution pour protéger nos employés, nos visiteurs et nos infrastructures à l’étranger », s’est bornée à répéter une dizaine de fois Mme Harf, refusant d’entrer dans les détails ou de citer un pays particulièrement visé. Mme Harf s’est contentée de confirmer que « AQPA était l’organisation terroriste la plus active des filiales d’Al-Qaïda », mais sans dire « qui pourrait être derrière cette menace ». Washington a décidé de fermer 19 ambassades et consulats américains au Moyen-Orient et en Afrique. Suivant leur allié américain, Paris et Londres ont prolongé de plusieurs jours la fermeture de leurs ambassades au Yémen.
