An ancient road that was built around 2000 years ago has been uncovered during a subway construction in the northern Greek (Macedonia)  city of Thessaloniki.

The 70-meter stretch of marble road was uncovered during the construction of the city's new subway system, which has now been on hold for four years. Plans are in place to raise the road to put it on permanent display.

Evidence of life in Greece 2000 years ago are etched into the marble paving stones, with drawings of children's board games and horse-drawn carriage still clear to see with the naked eye. Also discovered at the site were remains of tools, lamps and the bases of marble columns.
The original road, built by Greeks 500 years earlier, still remains underneath the Roman construction.
