Trump hits out at Iranian support for 'terrorists'

US President Donald Trump has said that Iran must never be allowed have nuclear weapons, while also denouncing Iranian support for "terrorists."

Speaking in Jerusalem during his trip to the Middle East, Mr Trump said "the United States and Israel can declare with one voice that Iran must never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon - never ever - and must cease its deadly funding, training and equipping of terrorists and militias."

On the first leg of his trip in Saudi Arabia, Mr Trump lashed out at Iran, accusing it of fuelling "the fires of sectarian conflict and terror" and calling for its international isolation.

Mr Trump also spoke of a "rare opportunity" to bring peace to the region as he landed in Israel to seek ways to restart Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts.

Mr Trump hailed the "unbreakable bond" between the US and Israel as he spoke at the welcoming ceremony.

He urged regional leaders to work together for peace and said his trip to Saudi Arabia had brought him new hope for that prospect.
